Doing it all.

I suspect my child is a bit of an overachiever.  (No clue where he got that from.)

We have thrown away the diapers.

Let me put this to you another way..

Child refuses to wear diapers.  At all.  Even at night.

And he is doing it.  There have been a few accidents.  But there have also been a lot of successes.  He actually went all day at school without needing to change his clothes.  Child stayed dry all day the first day in underwear.  I am shocked.

I despaired of ever getting the child potty trained.  I really did not want to push it, and kept trying to find the right motivation.  Bigger bed, cool new toy.  We tried charts and stickers.  Nothing was getting him out of diapers and into underwear.

Until recently.  His best friend at school got moved up to the next class because he is 3 years old and potty trained.  Now Little Guy is left without his friend.

I had to tell him that the only way that he will get moved up to the next class and join his friend is if he wears underwear every day, and uses the potty all the time.

Apparently the loss of his friend is sufficient motivation for him to give up diapers.

He even has refused diapers at night.  (We are still working on this, as last night was the first diaper free night.)

I am not sure who is more nervous, me or him.

But he is doing it.  He wanted this change.  And it is awesome seeing him succeed.

And it is also pretty awesome not to have to carry a diaper bag any more.  Hello, purses!

    Congratulations!

We’re giving it a try every 3-4 months. LO just doesn’t seem to have the bodily recognition yet that she needs to go (or else she is ignoring it in favor of playing since if I sit her down every hour she’s fine but if I run late or get distracted she’s in a puddle).

The amazing thing about this time is that he is in control of it. We do not make him go, but we do offer and remind him of when he should go. We actually did switch to diapers late in the evening last night, which I think made everyone happier. And he is back in underwear this morning. That works for me!
